The Donnell Oakley Foundation (DOF) was established to provide for underprivileged families and individuals within our community, while ensuring we exemplify Christ’s love for all humanity. We honor and preserve, the hopes, dreams, and legacy of Donnell Oakley, as a military veteran, pastor, youth mentor, and community leader. Donnell Oakley lived a life of service to others in need, by showing compassion, empathy, and lending an ear to the unheard.
By partnering with the community and other organizations, the Donnell Oakley Foundation (DOF) will assure the mission of serving humanity through love is pursued wholeheartedly. The foundation is managed by Donnell Oakley’s widow and children, who share his beliefs, ideas, and genuine love for those who are underserved.
In 1963 Donnell Oakley Sr. was born in St. Louis, Missouri. After graduation, Donnell married his High School sweetheart, Cassandra, and enlisted in the United States Army to serve his country.
During his military career he was selected for numerous duty assignments that allowed him to serve all over the world. Donnell answered his Nation’s call and deployed to Kuwait in support of the Gulf War from 1990-1991; he also served on deployments to Iraq, and Africa.
Throughout his military career he earned many awards and decorations for his exemplary and meritorious service. In 2002, Donnell retired honorably from the United States Army after 20 years of dedicated selfless service.
Following his retirement, he continued to serve his community of Phoenix, AZ as a pastor, reaching out to those in need. In 2006, Donnell accepted a position to serve military families at Luke AFB as the Community Manager. The extent of his kindness was heartfelt throughout the community, as he was a servant leader who genuinely cared about those he crossed paths with.
Donnell was a loving, compassionate, and sincere soul until his last breath in December 2017; departing this world after a sudden and brief battle with Leukemia. Although he is deeply missed, his family, friends and colleagues think of him with joy because of the light and happiness he brought to all he encountered.
We use donations to purchase food and necessities for families in need around the holidays. With the help of volunteers, we put together food kits and deliver them to local community families.
